Particle Design
Microsphère rigide avec des pores de grande taille
The core of VirCap® particles is the novel porous structure with large “throughpores”. These large throughpores allow part of mobile phase flow through, quickly carrying biomolecules to smaller diffusive pores. The large “throughpores” reduce diffusion rate of biomolecules and enhance interaction between biomolecules and functional groups on the surface. Consequently, diffusion barriers are lowered, and flow rate can be dramatically increased — without compromising capacity or resolution.
√ 3000–6000Å pore size, enable the diffusion and mass transfer for large biomolecules.
√ 45–90 micron particles, satisfy your purification processing requests.
Ligand Architecture
Tentacules flexibles
Flexible tentacle structure minimizes the steric hindrance between functional groups and target molecules. It also improves the binding capability of the target material. Compared to traditional media, VirCap® media have more effective capture and higher total recovery.
Performance
Débit élevé, faible contre-pression
Biopure media offer an excellent balance of resolution and operating backpressure. Under the condition of mobile phase change, VirCap® media exhibits almost no shrinkage or expansion. Throughpores and flexible tentacles ensures the rapid diffusion of solute, reduces the barrier of mass transfer, and realizes the high dynamic load under the operation of high flow rate.
Durabilité
Durability Robust Chemical Stability

Why Perfusion Chromatography for Virus Purification?
VirCap® AF media is an affinity chromatography media designed to capture and moderate capsular virus purification stages. Specific adsorption of VirCap® AF media and target occurs by simulating the affinity between ligands and virus particles with capsular membranes. With unique high loading capacity, high flow rate and low back pressure, VirCap® AF media reduces the process cycle time and increases the yield, fully meeting the requirements of large-scale biopharmaceutical and vaccine production processes.
Particle Microstructure & Ligand Bonding Technology

Technologie de liaison des ligands
Functional groups or ligand on traditional packing materials are distributed along their surface. This limits their ability to effectively interact with bio-molecules. GALAK developed technologies to build “tentacle structure” on its ion-exchange and affinity packing materials. Flexible tentacle structures minimize the steric hindrance between functional groups or ligand and target molecules, improving the binding capability of the target molecules. Compared to traditional packing materials, GALAK’s PS-DVB particles show more effective capture and higher recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Biopure AF perfusion chromatography resin.
What is perfusion chromatography and how does it differ from gel filtration?
Perfusion chromatography uses particles with large throughpores (3000–6000Å) that allow part of the mobile phase to flow directly through the microsphere, creating convective mass transfer. Traditional gel filtration relies entirely on diffusion to transport biomolecules into pores. This convective mechanism enables perfusion resins to maintain high resolution at 2–3× the throughput of conventional fast-flow gels.
How does the throughpore / porous structure enable high flow rate?
The large throughpores (3000–6000Å) allow part of the mobile phase to flow through the particle, quickly carrying biomolecules to smaller diffusive pores where binding occurs. This reduces the diffusion path and mass transfer resistance. Combined with flexible tentacle structures, the resin achieves linear flow rates up to 1000 cm/h at low backpressure without sacrificing binding capacity.
What are the advantages of the tentacle structure?
The flexible tentacle structure extends functional groups or ligands away from the particle surface on polymer chains, minimizing steric hindrance between the ligand and target molecules. This improves ligand accessibility and binding capacity, resulting in more effective capture and higher total recovery compared to traditional surface-bonded media.
What particle size and pore size ranges are available?
Biopure AF resin features 70 µm particle size with 3000–6000Å throughpores. The broader Biovanix PSDVB and PMMA platform also offers 45–90 µm particle sizes and pore sizes from 100 nm to 400 nm for customized separation needs.
What is the dynamic binding capacity?
Biopure AF has a dynamic binding capacity (DBC) of 100 mg lysozyme per ml of resin, maintained even at high flow rates thanks to the efficient convective mass transfer through the throughpore structure.
What flow rate and backpressure can I expect?
Biopure AF supports linear flow rates up to 1000 cm/h at 20°C with buffer viscosity equivalent to water, at less than 3 bar (43.5 psi) backpressure with a 20 cm column bed height. The rigid PS/DVB skeleton ensures minimal shrinkage or expansion during mobile phase changes.
What is the pH operating range and chemical stability?
Biopure AF is stable across the full pH range of 1–14. The rigid polymeric PS/DVB particle backbone coated with a proprietary hydrophilic polymer provides excellent chemical stability, tolerating 0.5–1M NaOH, organic solvents, and high-salt solvents for cleaning and sanitization.
Can Biopure AF be used for both live and inactivated virus purification?
Yes. Biopure AF features high selectivity with similar affinity to both live and inactivated capsular viruses. The closed-column operation ensures safety and sterility throughout the purification process.
What are the CIP and storage conditions?
Clean-in-Place (CIP) conditions include 0.5–1M NaOH, organic solvents, and high-salt solvents. Storage conditions are 2–8°C in 20% ethanol (EtOH).
Which viruses and antigens has this resin been applied to?
Biopure AF has been applied to purify Rabies, Influenza, Japanese Encephalitis, Feline Leukemia, Feline Herpes, Feline Calicivirus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Human Herpes Simplex, and Human Measles viruses, as well as Human Parainfluenza. Viral and microbial antigens include Herpes Simplex gA and gB Glycoprotein Subunits, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, Filamentous Hemagglutinin from B. pertussis, and Leucocytosis Promoting Factor Hemagglutinin. A validated one-step purification protocol for live attenuated rabies virus vaccine is available.
How does Biopure AF relate to InertShell product lines?
Biopure AF is part of the VirCap series as a perfusion affinity resin specifically designed for capsular virus capture. InertShell is a separate PMMA core-shell technology product optimized for inactivated virus flow-through purification. The two product lines can be used together in an integrated capture-and-polish workflow.
